Ft. Myers - Day Four - Baseball

Baseball!

Jet Blue

Sunday was also a built in unscheduled day. All but Kathy were eager to see some baseball, and the Twins were playing an ‘away’ game with the Red Sox, who are also based in Ft. Myers. Kathy decided to stay back and relax at the hotel as the rest of the gang headed out to Jet Blue Park, also known as Fenway South.

It was fun for Jenny to compare the experiences from her visit last spring to the original Fenway. She said the setup around the park was very similar to the game day experience at Fenway.

The field dimensions are exactly the same as Fenway, including the Green Monster, although here the wall is split to include seating in the middle and on top. A net covers the middle seating area and balls are played ‘off the wall’ just like at Fenway.

We didn’t wander around the park much - Rob and Pat had been there in 2017 and had standing room tickets ‘in’ the wall, and Jenny had little interest in wandering further than the team store.

The game was fun, especially since it was our first of the trip (and year). Twins newest player Kenta Maeda was pitching and looked really, really good. High expectations for the Twins this year, and Kenta is considered a major addition to the team. It was exciting to see him pitch well.

Back to the hotel, and a decision on the rest of the day. We ended up choosing a small family owned Italian place, that was mediocre at best. But we left full, so all was not lost.

It was still early, and we needed a Target run for a few things we decided to pick up rather than carry from home. While we were there, we grabbed a game to play - Azul. It was board game of the year in 2018, and we had a lot of fun playing.
