Ft. Myers - Day Three - Lazy Saturday
Lazy Saturday
A request to sleep in from the kids sounded good to all of us, so we started a bit later today. Breakfast at Denny’s to start the day, it was busy and it took a very long time to get our food.
We planned for a slow day today with no plans, mostly due to concerns about places being busier on a weekend. We decided on some mini golf, and had a pretty good time at Castle Golf. Rob ended up with the win, and Pat and Jenny tied at the bottom.
Jenny was eager to get to a beach, so we decided to head out to Sanibel Island for a while in late afternoon. Pat and Rob had spied a local bar with lots of local beer on tap, so as Kathy and Jenny headed back to the hotel for swimming suits, the boys settled in for a couple beers and some appetizers at Marlins Brewhouse. Had fun with the pregnant bartender whose birthday was a couple days away - said she should buy us a beer to celebrate. Didn’t get too far with that of course. Had another appetizer with the girls, then headed out to Sanibel.
There is one way on and off the Island, and traffic and parking can be difficult. Because it was later in the day, both were great. Drove right up to a toll booth and parking was not an issue at the Lighthouse Beach Park. Had a great time wandering the beach, looking for shells and generally enjoying the gulf.
Dinner was at Bahama Breeze, a spot Kathy and Pat found last year. It is a chain, owned by Darden Restaurants, who also owns Olive Garden, Yard House and Capital Grill among others. Despite Pat’s dislike of chain places, we really enjoy this one - good food and great service.
Castle Golf had an option for a second round the same day for a couple bucks a piece and we decided to take advantage. Second round went much better for Pat, and he took the honors. Robert fell apart and sunk to the bottom.
